WiFi dongle issue – TP-Link TX1U Nano not creating wlan

Hello,

I am currently working with the CM3588 (RK3588 platform) running Ubuntu 20.04 with a custom 6.1.141 kernel.

I recently purchased a TP-Link Archer TX1U Nano (AX300, AIC8800 chipset). The device is correctly detected via USB (lsusb shows aicsemi ), but no wlan interface is created even after manually compiling and inserting the AIC8800 driver.

From investigation:

TP-Link only provides beta Linux drivers for this adapter
These drivers are mainly validated for kernel versions up to ~6.2 and appear to break on newer/custom kernels
The chipset (AIC8800) is not part of the mainline Linux kernel, requiring out-of-tree driver patches

Because of this, integration on CM3588 (vendor kernel 6.1.x) is proving unstable.

Could you please recommend:

A USB WiFi dongle model known to work out-of-the-box (or with minimal effort) on CM3588 / RK3588
Preferably something with mainline kernel support.

I wanted to share an update on this issue as I have now successfully resolved it.

The problem was related to the incompatibility of TP-Link’s provided beta drivers with newer/custom kernels (6.x). As noted earlier, the AIC8800 chipset is not supported in the mainline kernel, so the stock driver approach was unreliable.

After further testing, I found a compatible and stable driver that works correctly with kernel 6.1.x on RK3588.

Result:

Device is detected correctly
wlan interface is now created
WiFi operates normally without instability

This driver integrates much better with newer kernels compared to TP-Link’s official package.

Hopefully this helps anyone facing the same issue with the TX1U Nano (AIC8800) on newer Linux kernels.
