NanoPC-T6 interfaces switch when rebooted

Moderators: chensy, FATechsupport

Hello all. I have been dealing with this issue for the last 2 Openwrt releases. If I reboot the device or after an update which causes a reboot the interfaces swap & I either have to swap the cables so I can get back in or just unplug it to force another reboot so it goes back to normal. eth0 and eth1 swap places after every other reboot and I can't seem to find what causes it. The weird thing is that it does not do it all the time. I am not sure if this is an OpenWrt issue or not. I have had this device for only 2 months. It is running OpenWrt 25.12.4
You might want to check whether the interfaces are being identified by their device names instead of their MAC addresses. If the detection order changes during boot, eth0 and eth1 can appear to swap even though the physical ports haven't changed. I'd also compare the output of ip link, dmesg, and logread after a "good" boot and a "bad" boot to see if the kernel initializes the NICs in a different order. If it's specific to OpenWrt 25.12.4, testing the latest release or an older stable version could help determine whether it's a regression.
