Hi,
happy new year !

How can I update my existing FriendlyWrt on EMMC from 23.XX.XX to FriendlyWRT 24.XX.XX without losing my configuration and configuration data (practically a sys install like in openWrt) ?

You might be able to do something similar to a sysupgrade, but don’t count on a clean in-place upgrade between 23 → 24 without issues.

FriendlyWrt is basically a customized build of OpenWrt, but FriendlyARM doesn’t always guarantee full compatibility between major releases like upstream does. And even in vanilla OpenWrt, jumping major versions is where things get risky.

Thank You !

But how can I do (I mean step by step)

I’d be cautious about treating the 23.xx → 24.xx upgrade like a normal package upgrade, since the underlying OpenWrt/FriendlyWrt version may have changes that require a new image.

Before flashing anything, I’d make a backup of the current configuration and data. Then I’d check whether the specific FriendlyWrt 24.xx image for your board supports preserving the existing configuration during the upgrade. If there’s an official sysupgrade procedure, that would be preferable to a full EMMC reflash because it should give you a better chance of keeping your settings.[/quote]
